Chanoyu: Japanese Way of Tea

The audience will observe a demonstration of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea, also known as Tea Ceremony. They will be able to appreciate how the host and guests interact to instill a sense of inner harmony and peace, and oneness with nature and others. Before the demonstration, Chado and its history will be briefly explained. After the demonstration, sweets and bowls of tea (macha) will be served to 20 or so guests in the audience.

Demonstration of the Japanese Way of Tea
1. Introduction of Tea Ceremony – Explains the history and the current state of The Way of Tea.
2. Demonstration of Tea Ceremony – Demonstrates step-by-step how to conduct the Tea Ceremony.
3. Serving of the Tea – Serving the tea to several guests from the audience.

Purpose: To enhance and deepen the understanding of Japan to Americans by introducing one of Japan’s oldest cultural traditions.

Pre-registration is required through the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) website to attend this event. Seating is limited and registration does not guarantee guests a seat.
