The exhibit is curated by Paul MacLardy and Tena Turner of Arise Bazaar. The themes this year are nature motifs used in Japanese textiles focusing on the dying and weaving techniques to create the kimono and the meaning of the symbols used. The natural themes used in Kimono represent the importance of the surrounding landscape to the Japanese and over time have come to take on other meanings important to Japanese culture.
The self-guided tour will educate the viewer on the meanings of all the nature symbols and on the various handmade techniques used to create the kimono. Among the wares, will be Kimono from a hundred year period.
The exhibit will showcase a wide variety of textile techniques and surface design that when properly decoded will tell a rich varied tale that includes Japanese culture, history, and the social status of the person wearing it.
