Finalists of Sing Into Spring Competition Announced

The first annual National Cherry Blossom Festival® Sing Into Spring Competition was created to showcase local talent in the 2014 Parade, and 18 solo vocalists and groups have been selected to audition live on January 27. This is the first time the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® presented by Events DC will showcase local vocalists from a competition.   • Kelvin Dukes (Burtonsville, MD – age eight) – a bright, young student who has enjoyed singing and performing for others since the age of three
  • Justin Pineda Fronda (Silver Spring, MD – age 11) – who loves to perform both the Star-Spangled Banner and Philippine National Anthem
  • Geneveive Maki Meier (Cabin John, MD – age 13) – an avid songwriter, pianist, English and Japanese singer, and member of the Shizumi Kodomo Dance Troupe
  • InToneNation (Silver Spring, MD – ages 14-18) – a student-run a cappella group from Montgomery Blair High School
  • THEYCALLMEPIANO (Centreville, VA – age 15) – a passionate singer and songwriter whose music is influenced by pop and rock


  • The GW Pitches (Washington, DC) – the first all-female a cappella group at The George Washington University, composed of sixteen vocally diverse singers
  • The GW Vibes Group (Washington, DC) – a co-ed a capella group performing a range of styles from R&B to indie rock since its founding in 1999 at the George Washington University
  • Impitched (Washington, DC) – a semi-professional and co-ed a cappella group with members hailing from all over the world, in true DC fashion
  • Reverb Group (Washington, DC) – an award winning, a capella performance group with members based throughout the local area
  • Vox Pop (Washington, DC) – a vocal band that encourages each member to bring their own unique sound and style to enhance the listening enjoyment of their fans


  • Alan Gendreau (Washington, DC) – an energetic soloist who compares his style to Michael Bublé
  • Ashley Brown (Mount Rainier, MD) – a R&B/Pop artist who grew up with a great love of music
  • Geneva Renee (Silver Spring, MD) – an adult contemporary pop/soul vocalist, whose debut project “Beautiful Wonder” was considered for the 56th Grammy Awards
  • Janet Purnell (Washington, DC) – a retired grandmother and solo artist
  • Jermaine Harris (Washington, DC) – a R&B artist who has performed on shows including America’s Got Talent,” “Sunday Best,” “Apollo Live” and more
  • Tami Hayes (Olney, MD) – a jazz, gospel and pop artist
  • Tom Maxwell (Gainesville, VA) – a solo singer-songwriter with a focus on pop and modern country music
  • Tyiesha Evans (Woodbridge, VA) – a college student and a new mother pursuing a degree in  fine art

The 2014 Parade is from 10:00am to noon and runs along Constitution Avenue, NW rain or shine. It is free and open to the public. Prime grandstand seats, located on Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th streets, can be purchased here. Group tickets for 10 or more are also available.
