Outreach in the DC Community
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a non-profit 501(c)3
organization. In addition to raising funds to support festival
programming, the Festival also puts forth efforts to raise money
for two other charitable organizations: the National Park
Foundations' Cherry Tree Replacement Fund and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
Cherry Tree
Replacement Fund
In 1912, 3,020
cherry trees were donated in the name of the City of Tokyo to our
Nation's Capital. The Trust for the National Mall oversees the Cherry Tree Endowment Fund to raise the approximately $700,000 needed annually to maintain the trees.
The fund's money is used to prune, water, aerate and replace the trees as needed.
NCBF helps garner donations through general fund-raising and
by hosting the annual Gala Dinner Cruise aboard the Odyssey.
Boys
& Girls Clubs of Greater Washington
In 2005, the
Festival partnered with the National Football League (NFL) Alumni
Washington Chapter to hold its annual Charity Golf Classic to
benefit the Boys
& Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater
Washington is to help boys and girls of all backrounds - with an
emphasis on at-risk youth - build confidence, develop character
and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic minded,
responsible adults.
The organization serves over 30,000 area youth in its 20 clubs
and 7 Group Homes.
