The National Cherry Blossom Festival Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 26, 2017
The National Cherry Blossom Festival, in partnership with Guest Services, Inc., celebrates National Volunteer Week, April 23-29, 2017, through recognition of more than 880 volunteers who contributed approximately 4,400 total hours throughout the 2017 festivities.
The Festival has selected Kristine Pascual as the recipient of the inaugural Barbara Ehrlich Volunteer of the Year Award for her exemplary service and dedication. Pascual, a native of Las Vegas, visited Washington, DC for two weeks specifically to volunteer at the Tidal Basin Welcome Area.
“[Volunteering with the Festival] was an opportunity to interact with not just the locals, but people from all around the world,” said Pascual. “My experience with the Festival exposed me to so many different types of cultures and traditions. Being in the midst of it was a beautiful thing and I’ll remember it fondly as my first volunteering event.”
Beyond the four-week springtime celebration, the Festival has rededicated its volunteer program to provide year-round volunteer opportunities. This year, the Festival has partnered with The Color Run to provide volunteers for the race on September 17, 2017 at National Harbor.
