Official Festival Artwork

Acclaimed artist Erik Abel has been named Official Artist for the 2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival and his bold, original work is sure to become a collector’s item.  His art depicts a prominent cherry tree overlooking the Tidal Basin, with the Jefferson Memorial and blooming trees in the background. The artwork will also be seen on a variety of Festival merchandise.

Abel began his career in the surf industry and has experienced commercial and gallery success over the past 15 years, fueled by his painted and graphical expressions of culture and nature. Recognized for his unique juxtapositions of geometric patterns, organic textures, bold colors, and distinct waves, the intriguing simplicity and power of Abel’s work rouses an energy that has sparked enthusiasm throughout the surf and art communities, distinguishing himself with his recognizable and unique style. Inspired by his love of the ocean, passion for surfing, and fervor for travel, Abel’s art articulates the spirit of the water and the awe of nature.
